Goldfish lying on side

Question:

Recently we have lost 3 of our pond goldfish, we have just bought one inside to see if we can help it survive, but really dont know what the problem is with it, it is just laying on its side most of the time on the bottom, occasionally it will swim around but then go over on its side again, please can you shed some light on what the problem is and how to help it.
