Ant Mounds
Question:
What do you recommend for ant mounds right up next to your pond? I bought some baits in a container that you slightly push into the ground where the ant is supposed to go up in it to get the bait, etc. but the ants appear to be ignoring these things because the mounds are multiplying. Can you suggest anything for this problem? thanks, Kay McW.
Answer:
Ants close to the pond can be a bit of a problem, because we do not want to use anything poisenous that could wash into the pond and harm the pond fish. A natural remedy is the best approach here. There are a couple of things you can try:
1) Ants do not seem to like cinnamon, so you can sprinkle a generous amount. You can try dousing the ant hill with a high concentration salt water solution (this will kill any plants that are close by, though).
